I once thought it was ok to want the things the world accepts like makeup, jewelry, and modern clothes. I was obsessed with getting approval from guys, friends, and family without realizing it. I just thought I wanted to be beautiful unaware that my idea of beauty depended on what others thought of me. I always felt inadequate and empty.
It was not until after I begin going to church and was filled with the Holy Ghost that I realized that God already defined beauty for us and it does not consist of makeup, jewelry, and modern clothes. =)
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:3-5
“I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.” 1Timothy 2:9-10
It is wonderful that we are able to beautify ourselves with modesty =)
I recently felt convicted to be more modest because I want nothing more than to be beautiful in the eyes of God professing holiness. God meant for us to standout and be separate from the world allowing our light to shine. Never be ashamed but gladly wear longer skirts, longer sleeves, and higher necklines. =)
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
So as a male and I think I can speak for us all that we are attracted to beauty a nice body the whole nine. Once we get that girl that we were first attracted to we want her to become more modest in here ways so that only our eyes and mind can value her looks and and body. It's a lot to ask from a girl to not care about what anyone els thinks of her but to only cherish our opinion. As a older brother to a handful of beautiful and bright sisters I know how guys think and act to be honest I tend to think this way sometimes with the mindset that the only thing that matters is looks and a nice body, but ive grown out of this thinking luckily. I would want a guy to date my sister solely off of their character and intellect I stead of what they look like. I think relationships would last a lot longer and hold more substance. Great blog sis
ReplyDeleteNot considering media influences and other societal pressures it definitely is natural (of the flesh) to look at the outward appearance. This is another reason why it is important for us to dress modestly. I also dress modestly out of respect for the husband God will bless me with. I agree that it is definitely difficult for women to dress without trying to be attractive to others; it was very difficult for me. That’s why it is so important to know how God defines beauty. This made the difference for me. =) Before my boyfriend and I started dating he never complimented me when I was dressed to be seen. It was not until I decided to dress modestly that he told me I was beautiful and I’m glad it happened that way. =) I appreciate you giving a man’s perspective. Thank you brother! =)
DeleteSuper sweet! Thanks for the truth
DeleteI am so happy to hear this! It is a revelation and something that God has to deal with and convict us about. But once you get it for yourself, it is BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kendra! I agree it is something we have to allow God to reveal to us. It made a huge difference in my low self esteem. It's a great feeling and I pray that more experience it!
